Entangled Ecologies of People and place

We gather works that emerge from a felt relationship with the Earth. For Issue 02, we’re looking for contributions that explore how we live in relationship with the land. This can take many forms, whether that be writing, photography, illustration, film, field notes, or something harder to define.

What matters is that the work holds a sense of connection to place, and feels in conversation with something beyond the self.

We gather stories, images, and works that emerge from a felt relationship with the Earth.

We are interested in contributions that explore
how we might live in right relationship with the land.
This can take many forms: writing, photography,
poetry, illustration, film, or something harder to define. We are very open to field notes and other experimental forms.

What matters is that they carry a sense of connection, of entanglement, of being in conversation with something beyond the self.

On submitting work

Submissions might move through observation, story, or experiment. We welcome work that thinks in systems, that sees relationships and entanglements, and does not shy away from complexity.

This might take form as:
- Observations of land, seasons, and ecological change
- Stories of food, farming, and growing
- Encounters with more-than-human life
- Practices, rituals, or ways of paying attention
- Grief, care, repair, and renewal
- Artistic or poetic responses to place

Loam Journal is a small-scale print project sustained by passion rather than profit. Many of the contributions, editorial processes, and behind-the-scenes hours are held voluntarily by people who believe in the value of making and sharing thoughtful work in print.

We are deeply aware of the broader questions around creative labour and fairness. As we grow, we are committed to moving towards more sustainable and paid models for contributors. For now, we are grateful to everyone who chooses to share their work with us as part of this evolving, collective ecosystem.

Loam exists because of artists, writers, and thinkers who offer their work with generosity. We do not take that lightly, and we hold every contribution with care and respect.

Deadline: 17 MAY
